A Sustainably and Culturally rich approach towards Design.

It is our immense pleasure to share the interview of our head AR. ANANT KRISHNA with THE BETTER INDIA on his Architecture Studio being the subject. It shows how an environmentally and culturally concerned approach can bring in a change in the ongoing Architecture practice which is more mundane than ever.

It is our immense pleasure to share the article published by NEWSDAY EXPRESS for our Office in Lucknow  Sustainable and close to nature practice is the key to a healthy, happy and happening life.

AN ARCHITECTURE CANVAS

The work in progress portrays how  space within changes itself once some walk through it. The idea is to create dynamism by fusing it with Indigeneity and a Sustainable design approach.

RESIDENCE FOR MR. RIZWAN

The idea for this house was to dive back into the history from where Islam originated. The house follows the ideology of Islam, segregating public with private; respecting Nature; Privacy to women and children; Simple design; no superiority portray; simple aesthetics and protection from the outside world; along with reflecting cultural Architecture elements of old times including Mashrabiyyas, qa'ah, Musallah, Majaz, Mulqafs and courtyard in a modern, contemporary way.

The spaces strictly segregate themselves into 2 zones, public and private, and aims to provide a healthy life to the women and children residing inside the residence. Their emotional, functional, and social needs are what drives the design of this house. The central courtyard acts as a hook for the house around which all the daily functions of the house revolve. This courtyard not only promotes Passive cooling and greatly reduces the load on Electricity but also guides its inhabitants to follow a sustainable approach towards life.

RESIDENCE FOR MRS. ASTHA (ABOVE)

This house, designed in a small plot is feature-loaded with state-of-the-art amenities like a Swimming Pool, Terrace Garden, and a Movie Theatre. The design explores our rich cultural Past, bringing back the concept of Aangan which Naturally cools the house by respecting orientation and wind direction. There are multiple artistic touches that this house has(like the image above which portrays its roof design with a swimming pool and Aangan underneath), making it stand out from a normal, contemporary design.

"MODERNITY WITH INDIGENEITY"
OFFICE IN LUCKNOW

The design in itself has been a journey, from discovering some of the contextual and vernacular Building techniques to meeting undermined local craftsmen. This design was an attempt, to infuse, explore and experiment with the local potential and historical significance of Architecture in a modern, urban setting.

From creating Mud Walls, Wooden Carvings, local carpentry to exploring rich Architecture elements Like Vaults and bunkers, this small office area follows a Sustainable Approach and challenges the notion of Time and Space, and compliments the inherency of its location. But alongside also complement the modern Philosophy of minimalism and simplicity in design.
